China Shares is a body of photographic and video work that resulted from a two month residency in The Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region, in North West China.
The residency in Xinjiang took the artist along the Old Silk Road, to examine the region that has for centuries struck romantic chords in the West. The work was made in market towns along the old trade routes. It looked at the changing nature of a region whose cultures have always been linked to international trade, as the region adapts to incoming capitalism, and the opportunistic politics of a wider world.
